Situation
Karl von Orb is a Germany-based visual artist whose body of work spans multiple categories, from painting and sculpture to mixed-media installations. His pieces have been shown in solo and group exhibitions across Europe, and he maintains an active presence in the contemporary art scene.
Despite a growing career, Karl's digital footprint did not match the quality of his work. His portfolio was spread across social media posts, third-party gallery listings, and an outdated personal page that offered no consistent visual identity. Collectors and curators who wanted to browse his full catalogue had no single destination to do so. Managing updates, adding a new series, marking a piece as sold, or uploading exhibition photos, required manual coordination across multiple platforms every time.
Task
Karl needed a single, professional home for his art on the web, but the challenge went deeper than simply launching a new website.
Works were scattered across Instagram, Saatchi Art, and an old static page, forcing curators to piece together information from multiple sources. Every portfolio update required outside help. Adding a new work with high-resolution images, dimensions, materials, and category tags could take days instead of minutes. And the presentation itself did not reflect the quality of the work: the existing site used a generic template that made the portfolio feel interchangeable rather than distinctive.
The stakes were clear. Without a professional digital presence, exhibition opportunities and collector inquiries were being left on the table.
Action
We designed and delivered a fully custom portfolio website, karlvonorb.com, in two weeks, combining a gallery-grade front end with a self-service CMS.
Clean, gallery-grade presentation. The Works section displays art in a responsive grid with hover overlays showing title and year. Each piece opens into a full-screen image slider with keyboard navigation, deep-linking, and fullscreen mode, giving collectors a gallery-wall viewing experience from any device. A red dot indicator marks sold works at a glance.

Category filtering. Visitors can filter the portfolio by category, including painting, sculpture, and installation, with smooth transitions that help curators quickly focus on the type of work they care about.
Organized exhibition and publication history. Exhibitions are grouped by year with venue information and photo galleries. Publications include cover images and supporting details. Together, these sections give the site the structure of a proper artist CV while keeping the experience visual and interactive.

Full CMS control. Behind the scenes, a headless CMS lets Karl manage new works, media galleries, exhibition records, and static pages without developer help. Changes trigger an automatic rebuild and deploy workflow so updates reach the live site within minutes.
Dark mode and social integration. The site supports automatic light and dark mode switching and links directly to Karl's Instagram and Saatchi Art profiles, turning a previously fragmented presence into a single destination.

Results
Within the first three months of launching karlvonorb.com, the impact was clear:
| Metric | Impact |
|---|---|
| Gallery inquiries | Increased 3x |
| Content update time | Reduced from days to under 10 minutes |
| Average session duration | +45% |
Beyond the metrics, the site gave Karl something harder to quantify: a digital presence that finally matched the quality of his work.
